The BETAFPV Air65 II is a 65mm 1S brushless whoop that's built to be crashed, rebuilt, and flown again. It's a regular sight at local race days. The second-generation Matrix 1S 5IN1 II flight controller has a 12A ESC, onboard ELRS 2.4GHz receiver, and a 25–400mW analog VTX, all on a 1.0mm thickened PCB. The FC uses 3-point mounting, which BETAFPV says cuts crash-related FC damage by roughly 80% compared to the original Air65.
Pick your personality. The two versions share the same electronics but are tuned for different jobs:
- Champion (16.6g): The race-night weapon. It uses the ultra-light 2.20g Air65 Champion Frame, 0702 36000KV dual-ball-bearing motors, and GF 1207 3-blade props for a 6.3:1 thrust-to-weight ratio. The motors are soldered direct (no connectors) to save every gram. Think maximum punch, minimum weight.
- Freestyle (17.8g): The smooth operator. It uses the Air65 II frame, 0702 25000KV motors, and GF 1219S 3-blade props for better low-throttle torque and fluid, cinematic flow. The motors plug in with JST1.25 connectors, so swaps are easy, and flight time runs a little longer (about 5:00).
Both versions come with the Air II Canopy, which has upgraded materials, reinforced corners, and an adjustable camera angle from 15° to 45°.
Note: This is a bind-and-fly whoop. You'll need an ELRS 2.4GHz radio, analog FPV goggles, and 1S BT2.0 batteries (not included).
- Wheelbase: 65mm | Camera: C03 | Canopy: Air II
- FC: Matrix 1S 5IN1 II | ESC: 1S 12A (18A peak)
- VTX: Onboard analog 5.8GHz, 25–400mW | RX: Onboard serial ELRS 2.4GHz
- Battery connector: BT2.0 (U cable pigtail)
- Recommended battery: LAVA II 1S 280mAh / 320mAh
- Flight time (320mAh): ~4:40 (Champion) / ~5:00 (Freestyle)
Includes: Air65 II quadcopter (Champion or Freestyle version), 4× props (GF 1207 for Champion, GF 1219S for Freestyle), Air II Canopy, motor and canopy screws, 2× shock-absorbing balls, Type-C to SH1.0 adapter board, SH1.0 4-pin adapter cable.
Common Questions
Champion or Freestyle: which should I get?
Get the Champion if you race. It's lighter, has higher-KV motors and 6.3:1 thrust-to-weight, and it's built for lap times. Get the Freestyle if you want to fly around your house, backyard, or a park. The lower-KV motors and larger-pitch props are smoother and easier to control, and flight time is a bit longer.
What do I need to fly the Air65 II?
You need an ELRS 2.4GHz radio, FPV goggles that can receive analog video (such as dual digital and analog goggles like the HDZero BoxPro+), and 1S BT2.0 batteries with a charger. The receiver, VTX, and camera are all built in.
Which batteries should I use?
BETAFPV recommends the LAVA II 1S in 280mAh or 320mAh. On a 320mAh you can expect around 4:40 on the Champion and 5:00 on the Freestyle.
Are the motors replaceable?
On the Freestyle, the motors plug in with JST1.25 connectors, so swapping is quick. On the Champion, the motors are soldered directly to the board to save weight, so replacing one means soldering.
Is it tough enough for race-night crashes?
It's built for it. The FC has 3-point mounting and a thickened 1.0mm PCB, and the Air II canopy and PP frame are designed to absorb impacts. BETAFPV's own crash test (20 wall impacts per unit) had no FC failures on the Air65 II.
